Dry Needling/IMS

What is dry needling?
Dry needling is a skilled intervention that uses a thin filiform needle to penetrate the skin and stimulate underlying myofascial trigger points and muscular and connective tissue to manage neuromusculoskeletal pain and movement impairments. It is a technique used to treat dysfunctions in skeletal muscle, fascia, and connective tissue; diminish persistent peripheral nociceptive input; and reduce or restore impairments in body structure and function, leading to improved activity and participation.

Dry needling is different than acupuncture.

Acupuncture practiced by acupuncturists and dry needling performed by physical therapists differs in a historical, philosophical, indicative, and practical context. Dry needling performed by physical therapists is based on Western neuroanatomy and scientific studies of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. Physical therapists who perform dry needling do not use traditional acupuncture theories or terminology. See this comparison overview between dry needling and acupuncture.

Why choose dry needling?

Musculoskeletal pains are not often explained from a muscle perspective. However, referred pain from muscle parts can mimic other musculoskeletal aches, as shown in the image. These so-called ‘myofascial trigger points are sources of persistent peripheral nociceptive input, and their inactivation is consistent with current pain management insights.

Witness Immediate Pain Relief and Enjoy Your Life Again At Its Best

Dry needling therapy gives an effective alternative treatment option for pain relief and enhanced muscle movement. Also called intramuscular manual therapy, dry needling therapy utilizes a dry needle to deactivate various trigger points in your muscle. Combined with other physical therapy techniques and exercises, dry needling can offer you instant relief from pain. Different from acupuncture, this therapy primarily focuses on trigger points. It can lead to improved blood flow and muscle relaxation and can also eliminate inflammation or muscle tension.
